01

Recording and files

Choose among Custom, Meeting, Noise Reduction, Evidence, and Music modes, then confirm the intended microphone or system-audio source.

Recommended checks
  1. 01

Select Custom, Meeting, Noise Reduction, Evidence, or Music for the session, then make and play back a short non-sensitive test before an important recording.

  2. 02

For a microphone recording, allow microphone access and confirm any external input shown by the app. Microphone recordings can be created as M4A, WAV, or ALAC.

  3. 03

Start system-audio recording yourself from the iOS Broadcast panel. It captures compatible app playback, not phone calls, and is subject to ReplayKit, DRM, app, and lock-screen restrictions.

  4. 04

System-audio recording stops when the device locks. After an interruption, input change, or accessory disconnect, test again and preserve an exported original before destructive edits.

02

Captions, transcription, and understanding

Use iOS 26+ on-device speech features when available, or deliberately start a cloud task that requires an account, network, and credits.

Recommended checks
  1. 01

On iOS 26 or later, Apple on-device live captions and file transcription can work without credits. The first use of a language may download an Apple language resource; after it is available, supported work can run offline.

  2. 02

If the device, system, or language does not support the on-device route, cloud captions or file transcription require a Ken Recorder account, a network connection, and sufficient credits.

  3. 03

On-device translation depends on Apple Translation, the system version, and installed language resources. Not every language pair or device is supported.

  4. 04

Check names, numbers, technical terms, quotations, summaries, and action items against the recording before using or sharing AI-generated text.

03

Local tools and cloud audio AI

Separate local editing and enhancement from cloud services such as stem separation, speech synthesis, and voice cloning.

Recommended checks
  1. 01

Trimming, local denoising, far-field enhancement, EQ, dynamics, loudness adjustment, format conversion, and local OCR run on the device without signing in, using a network, or spending credits.

  2. 02

Cloud stem separation, text-to-speech, voice cloning, cloud OCR, and AI text or report tools are started by you and require an account, network access, and sufficient credits.

  3. 03

Clone only your own voice or a voice for which you have explicit permission. Do not impersonate another person or use generated audio deceptively.

  4. 04

Begin with the cleanest original, compare every result with it, and save processed audio as a separate version until you confirm important detail is intact.

04

Exporting and sharing

Use the formats actually provided for each result, verify the destination, and export important work before changing devices or reinstalling.

Recommended checks
  1. 01

Audio export supports M4A, WAV, CAF, AIFF, and FLAC. The conversion toolbox supports M4A, WAV, AIFF, and FLAC. MP3 can be imported, played, and edited, but is not a local output format.

  2. 02

Markdown export is local and free. Word, PDF, and mind-map rendering use cloud services and therefore require an account, network, and credits.

  3. 03

A slideshow is a video created from a recording and timeline photos; it is not a PowerPoint file. Use only destinations currently shown by the app rather than expecting a public share link.

  4. 04

Open the exported item from its destination and verify playback, text, timing, and private content. Ken Recorder currently does not synchronize the recording library across devices.

05

Purchases and restoration

Restore subscriptions with the same Ken Recorder account and the Apple ID used for purchase; one-time credit packs are not granted again.

Recommended checks
  1. 01

Sign in to the same Ken Recorder app account and the Apple ID used for the original subscription, then allow the App Store and app time to refresh status.

  2. 02

Use Restore Purchases for an eligible subscription only when the installed app offers it. Wait for the result before trying again.

  3. 03

Consumable, one-time credit packs are not reissued by Restore Purchases. Check the app account and transaction history before buying again.

  4. 04

Deleting or signing out of a Ken Recorder account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Manage cancellation, billing, and refunds through Apple.

06

Account, privacy, and deletion

Manage permissions and account data with the understanding that the recording library does not currently sync between devices.

Recommended checks
  1. 01

Review microphone, speech recognition, camera, photos, notifications, and App Tracking Transparency permissions in system settings. ATT affects personalized advertising or cross-app tracking, not whether non-personalized ads can appear.

  2. 02

Export important local recordings and results before reinstalling, changing devices, signing out, or requesting deletion; there is no cross-device recording-library sync.

  3. 03

Use the installed app's account control to request deletion of the account and deletable related service data. Local recordings and records that must be kept for legal, security, transaction, or compliance reasons are not necessarily removed by that request.

  4. 04

Cancel an Apple subscription separately. If the account control is unavailable, contact support from the associated address and provide only the minimum information needed for verification.

Where each task happens

Use this map to distinguish local tools, iOS 26+ on-device speech features, user-requested cloud AI, and exported results.

01DEVICE

Local capture and tools

Recording, playback, trimming, denoising, far-field enhancement, EQ, dynamics, loudness, conversion, and local OCR run on the device.

02IOS 26+ DEVICE

On-device speech and translation

Supported Apple captions and file transcription require iOS 26+; translation also depends on Apple Translation and installed language resources.

03REQUESTED CLOUD AI

Cloud processing

Cloud captions, transcription, separation, TTS, voice cloning, cloud OCR, and AI documents require sign-in, network, credits, and an explicit request.

04EXPORT / BACKUP

Files you control

Export supported audio or document results and verify the destination. The recording library does not currently sync across devices or promise public share links.

Feature availability depends on the installed app, system version, language resources, account status, network, and credits. Cloud data is handled for the reasonable period needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations.

Troubleshooting desk

Start with the shortest safe checks. Keep an original copy of important audio and avoid sending private recordings by email.

01
Recording will not startCheck the correct path for microphone recording versus iOS system-audio recording.
Check in this order
  1. For microphone recording, confirm microphone permission, free storage, the selected input, and any connected accessory, then make a short test.
  2. For system audio, start Ken Recorder from the iOS Broadcast panel and keep the device unlocked; locking the device stops the broadcast recording.
  3. Confirm that the source app permits ReplayKit capture. Phone calls, DRM-protected content, and playback from some apps cannot be captured.
  4. After reconnecting an input or recovering from an interruption, play back a non-sensitive test before the important session.
02
An AI task fails or does not completeFirst identify whether the task is iOS 26+ on-device speech or a cloud AI request.
Check in this order
  1. For on-device captions or transcription, confirm iOS 26 or later, device and language support, and completion of any Apple language-resource download.
  2. For on-device translation, confirm Apple Translation supports the selected language pair and that required language resources are installed.
  3. For cloud captions, transcription, separation, synthesis, cloning, OCR, or AI documents, confirm sign-in, network access, sufficient credits, and access to the selected source.
  4. Preserve the original, retry once if offered, and record the exact status instead of repeatedly submitting the same task.
03
An export is missing or cannot be openedCheck task completion, available storage, destination access, and the exported item itself.
Check in this order
  1. Confirm that the source task finished and that the intended result is selected before exporting again.
  2. For audio, choose M4A, WAV, CAF, AIFF, or FLAC; the conversion toolbox offers M4A, WAV, AIFF, and FLAC. Do not select MP3 as an output target.
  3. For Word, PDF, or mind-map output, verify sign-in, network, and credits; Markdown export is local. Keep the original result unchanged.
  4. Check storage and destination access, then open the item at the selected destination rather than relying on a share-sheet preview or public-link expectation.
04
A purchase is not recognizedCheck the purchasing Apple ID and synchronization before repeating a purchase.
Check in this order
  1. Confirm that both the Ken Recorder app account and Apple ID match those used for the original subscription.
  2. Verify network access and allow time for the App Store purchase status to refresh.
  3. Use Restore Purchases for an eligible subscription only; consumable credit packs are not granted a second time.
  4. Check Apple's purchase history before another purchase, and remember that deleting the app account does not cancel the Apple subscription.
